  • MA101 Introduction to Data Analysis

    Statistics Programming with R

This course is geared towards biologists who routinely work with data and need to analyze and visualize it in a statistics package, and Excel is not providing them with that capability. This course teaches biologists how to do basic statistics and plotting of data with a statistical programming package such as R, and implement hypothesis tests and statistical techniques such as regression, PCA, etc. Automated biological data analysis, development of algorithms, and workflows will also be covered.

    Sessions 1 & 2
The R platform for statistical analysis; concepts of probability distributions; demonstrating the integrated framework of probability and statistics
    Sessions 3 & 4
Descriptive statistics for summarizing vector and matrix data, along with visualization of data to understand and interpret the underlying distributions
    Sessions 5 & 6
Hypothesis testing using parametric and non-parametric tests; t-tests, Wilcoxon tests, rank tests, etc. for analyzing one and two sample data
    Sessions 7 & 8
Additional techniques such as F-tests, ANOVA and permutation tests; project involving gene expression data

This course is taught by Shailender Nagpal, M.S.

    Registration

Registration for courses at Bioinformatics.org takes two steps:

    Step 1
If you haven't already done so, create an on-line account to access the educational section of our website. Please note that the registration for our educational system is separate from that of the main website; you will require another account.
