    The Advanced Biomedical Computing Center (ABCC) is a part of the Information Systems Program at the Frederick National Lab. The ABCC provides technology development, scientific consultation, collaboration and training, and high-performance computing support to the NCI and NIH scientists and staff.


    Responsible for providing bioinformatics support to scientific community involving analysis and interpretation of second and third-generation sequencing data including PacBio, Ion Torrent and Illumina platforms. Responsible for operating vendor provided and in-house data analysis pipelines that include data processing, QC, mapping, SNP/variation discovery, assembly, base modification, transcript mapping and counting and splicing analysis for data from next-generation sequencing technologies. Provide biological interpretation of analysis results and present results to project teams. Expand and improve analysis workflow functionality as new capabilities come online.


    • Possession of a Bachelors degree (Masters or PhD degree preferred) in biomedical science/bioinformatics/math/computer related field from an accredited college or university or four (4) years related experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
    • In addition to education requirements, a minimum of six (6) years of related experience in bioinformatics is required.
    • The candidate must possess experience in NGS sequence analysis and construction of data processing pipelines.
    • Thorough understanding and working knowledge across bioinformatics domains, computational analyses of sequence data, quality control/quality assurance analysis is necessary.
    • Hands-on experience in processing and assembling NGS sequencing data, polymorphism discovery is essential.
    • Proficiency in Unix, scripting languages and publicly accessible bioinformatics tools and databases is essential.
    • Must also have experience working in a team-oriented environment and possess excellent communication skills.
    • This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.


    • Experience in analyzing pacbio NGS sequence data as well as experience or in depth knowledge of molecular biology methods and techniques and biological sciences background.
