Opportunity: Database Developer in Developmental Biology @ CRBM/CNRS -- Montpellier, France
Submitted by Patrick Lemaire; posted on Wednesday, February 06, 2013
BACKGROUND
Our research team (http://www.crbm.cnrs.fr/spip.php?rubrique129) is using a systems biology approach to study the evolution of the embryonic development of marine animals closely related to the vertebrates, the ascidians. To integrate our datasets, we have developed an integrative database, ANISEED, which has become one of the most widely used information systems on ascidians worldwide (http://www.aniseed.cnrs.fr). The system will soon be extended to other taxa.
RESPONSIBILITIES
We are offering a 24-month developer position to extend the system and add new modules to describe, visualize, analyze and integrate novel types of biological data such as:
- 4D geometric models of the anatomy of developing embryos.
- High-throughput genomics data (RNA-seq, SELEX-seq, ChIP-seq, SNPs, gene expression).
- Comparisons of the developmental programs of different ascidian species.
REQUIREMENTS
This position is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with an initial training in computer science and eager to join the fast-moving field of integrative systems biology. The job will involve both the adaptation of existing tools to the system as well as the development of innovative new tools. Experience in the development of relational database schemas and a good knowledge of PHP5 is expected. Some experience in computational biology would be a plus, but candidates with an interest in biology without prior hands-on experience are also encouraged to apply.
TERMS
24-month fixed term contract
LOCALE
Montpellier (South of France)
HOW TO APPLY
Interested candidates should email (contact[at]aniseed.cnrs.fr) at their earliest convenience: a CV, a 1-page summary of professional experience and the names of two referees to Patrick Lemaire, Cyril Martin and Christelle Dantec.
DEADLINE
The selected candidate is expected to start between early March and late May 2013. The position will remain open until filled.
