Opportunity: Investigador Técnico @ Celgene Institute for Translational Research Europe (CITRE), Sevilla, Spain

BACKGROUND
Fixed-term research position (12 months) in the CITRE Computational Biology group, focusing on design and implementation of data-management infrastructure to store and query the subjects, parameters and results of diverse laboratory experiments performed by CITRE translational researchers. The position offers the opportunity to participate in inter-disciplinary science projects and gain experience within a corporate research environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Including, but not limited to:
Work within CITRE Computational Biology group and collaborate with other stakeholders at CITRE to:
- Investigate, design and implement a custom storage system for experimental data using non-commercial solutions (e.g. the Biomart data federation framework)
- Test the resulting system and populate with proprietary information
- Integrate the resulting system with further collections of clinical and assay data
- Produce all documentation required to operate and replicate the system implemented
- Write reports and presentations regarding design, content, operation and performance
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of Masters-level post-graduate qualification in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or similar from a recognized higher-education institution or research centre
- At least two years commercial or post-graduate academic experience in the design and implementation of biological data collections
- Fluency in common database implementation and information retrieval practices, e.g. LAMP, object APIs and protocols
- Experience of working within a server-based, command-line environment, and in use of the R/Bioconductor statistical programming environment
PREFERENCES
Fluency in the Spanish language and familiarity with a range of laboratory-based biological assay platforms and practices would both be viewed as advantageous.
TERMS
Fixed-term position, 12 months duration.
