BACKGROUND

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work with team to rapidly design and prototype algorithms on large-scale data; implement and optimize successful algorithms.
• Contribute to and maintain shared, documented, and reusable codebases.
• Prepare written reports and proposals for internal use and publication.
• Ability to solve complex problems.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Must possess a high level of initiative and the ability to work with little supervision.
• Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills required.
• Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
• Must be able to interact professionally and collaborate with computational, experimental, and theoretical scientists with expertise spanning a range of disciplines.
• Creativity, curiosity, and the desire, persistence and ability to create scientific advances required.

REQUIREMENTS

• Exceptionally deep computational understanding and abilities. Must have strong mathematical and abstract thinking skills, and hands-on ability to turn ideas into highly readable, elegant code. Strong statistical background preferred.
• PhD in math, physics, computer science, or comparable research experience required.
• Strong C++ programming skills and experience in Unix/Linux environment required.
• Knowledge of JavaScript, Python, and MySQL a plus.
• Experience in industry is a plus.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills needed.
• Must be capable of self-directed research within broader goals set by group.
• Must be capable of comprehending a complex, existing codebases.
