Opportunity: Biologist or Biophysicist Postdoctoral Fellow (#75732) @ Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory -- Berkeley, CA (US)
Submitted by Jeff Todd; posted on Friday, April 12, 2013

    Submitter

    BACKGROUND

Three-dimensional cell culture models have emerged as effective systems to study tissue differentiation and cancer behavior. If cancer is fundamentally a disease of aberrant multicellular organization, then understanding the effects of the tissue microenvironment (e.g., engineered matrices), cellular and molecular variables, and possible therapeutic interventions on the oncogenic phenotype requires the development and use of more sophisticated models that can approximate cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions in vivo.

Position requires designing innovative experiments for identifying stress responses in co-cultured multicellular systems, validating markers, and designing prognostic assays. This is an exciting position where applicant will be conducting research with a multidisciplinary team of molecular and computational biologists. Applicant will be supported by a strong team computational and informatics staff for quantifying dynamics of multicellular organization.

There is a tremendous amount of growth for innovation and career development.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Design innovative experiments for characterizing stress responses in multicellular systems
    • Establish a pipeline for high throughput imaging of multicellular system
    • Skilled in molecular biology and cloning strategies
    • Publish research materials in leading journals
    • Maintain a clear record of research progress and data collected, and Assist PI in developing reports and new proposals

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Ph.D. or equivalent experience in molecular biology, cell biology, and protein biochemistry techniques as evidenced by publications
    • Skilled in 3D cell cultured models and engineered matrices
    • Applicant must be an expert in fluorescent microscopy, live cell imaging, sample preparation, and maintain the required safety records.
    • Skilled in RNA collection
    • Excellent communication skills with ability to follow verbal and written instructions and ability to organize and document research results accurately
    • Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
    • Knowledge of working for plants and microorganisms is desirable.
