    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The UNM Clinical & Translational Science Center (CTSC) at the Health Sciences Center is hiring a Clinical Informatics Analyst responsible for obtaining data from electronic medical records and other sources of clinical data, often writing SQL queries to obtain the desired information. The Analyst will collaborate with data managers, systems administrators, biostatisticians, study personnel, and others to collect technical requirements and transform them into functional solutions; will facilitate the transfer of information and knowledge sharing with partners by participating in formal meetings and/or web conferences; and will coordinate the development, review, and release of informatics and clinical data management training materials.

    The Clinical Informatics Analyst will directly manage the pulling of reports from the federated data warehouses of the CTSC's Clinical Data Warehouse, a regional clinical research data warehouse and federated virtual system to capture, archive, and administer clinical, laboratory, and outcome data.
    The position will act as the "Honest Broker" to provide approved data from multiple sources and institutional partners (UNM Hospitals, TriCore Reference Laboratories, UNM Medical Group, New Mexico Veteran's Administration Health Care System). Knowledge of medical/clinical terminology and biomedical concepts will be necessary in order to understand requests, and to communicate effectively with biomedical researchers.

    REQUIREMENTS

    We are seeking a self-motivated individual who enjoys a diverse range of projects and has proven technical skills. The ability to communicate well and collaborate with researchers, physicians, and staff will be essential.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree; at least 4 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

    OR

    Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours; at least 6 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Excellent written and oral communications (sample of work will be requested).
    • Proven track record leading complex technical projects
    • Ability to work collaboratively with research teams and executive management from partnering institutions, including UNM Hospitals, TriCore Reference Laboratory, and NM VA Health Care Systems.
    • Experience in a regulatory compliance or "honest broker" role.
    • Knowledge of privacy and regulatory compliance issues including HIPAA and HRRC.
    • Ability to guide users in formulating requirements, identify errors or omissions in requirements, and recommend optimum approaches.
    • Knowledge of medical/clinical terminology and biomedical concepts.
    • Experience with data management, linking, data cleaning, and reporting .
    • Experience using data from electronic medical records.
    • Experience with designing, implementing, and querying databases in Microsoft SQL Server.
    • Experience with Cerner PowerInsight.
    • Experience with allied sources of clinical data including reference laboratory data systems, medical billing systems, and the VA.
    Additional requirements for this position:
    • Candidates for this position must be eligible for employment as verified by the US Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA); those individuals on the OIG/GSA Exclusion Lists will not be considered for hire. Once hired, periodic checks will be made for eligibility of continued employment.

    TERMS

    Funding available through 3/31/14; continuance beyond that date is subject to the Department's operational needs as outlined in UBPPM #3200, Employee Classifications.
