    Opportunity: Research Scientist and Postdoctoral Fellow (Bioinformatics) Positions @ KAUST -- Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

    BACKGROUND

    Research Scientist and Postdoctoral Fellow Positions in Plant Genetics and Bioinformatics at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Thuwal, Saudi Arabia.

    The Center for Desert Agriculture (CDA) invites applications for up to three positions at the level of Research Scientist and Postdoctoral Fellow in the following areas:
    • Cereals Genetics
    • Statistical Genetics applicable to crop science
    • Computational Biology and Bioinformatics

Work will be in an excellent environment with first class infrastructure and a critical mass of existing Plant Genetics and Bioinformatics activities within the CDA in active collaboration with members of faculty within the Computational Biosciences Research Center (CBRC) in KAUST.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Successful applicants will work with Mark Tester, Nina Fedoroff (CDA) & Arnab Pain (CBRC) in an interdisciplinary environment, focused on genome sequencing, gene discovery, comparative genome analysis, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and population genetics and the application of this knowledge towards, in particular, increasing salinity tolerance of crops.

    REQUIREMENTS

    The successful candidates will be self-starters, with evidence of problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and will require minimal day-to-day supervision. He/she will possess a PhD in the relevant field with demonstrable publication track record. For appointment at Research Scientist level, at least 5 years of postdoctoral or relevant experience is required. The prospective applicants are expected to have good English language communication skills, both oral and written. The successful applicants will work on multidisciplinary projects involving a combination of computational genomics, high-throughput sequencing, gene discovery by QTL fine mapping and genetic association mapping (GWAS) for crop improvement and plant domestication.

    Of relevance to these positions is experience in the following areas:
    • Crop genetics and positional cloning
    • Genome assembly & variation, functional annotation and knowledge extraction
    • Molecular biology

    TERMS

    All three positions are full-time position of up to 3-year duration in the first instance. Review of applications will begin immediately, and will continue until the positions are filled.

The core campus of KAUST is located on the Red Sea at Thuwal – approximately 80 kilometers north of Saudi Arabia's second largest city, Jeddah.
