The Systems Biology Group should focus on aspects of cell wall biology that complement other activities in the Feedstocks Division. Research topics could include metabolomics, proteomics, biochemistry, and cell biology, including metabolic channeling and interactions between proteins involved in cell wall biosynthesis. An important component of this position is to establish a highly competitive independent research program. As one of the scientists in the Feedstocks Division, this position will manage the day-to-day operations and research activities of the Systems Biology Group, including coordination with the other senior personnel in the Feedstock Division to ensure that the goals and milestones set forth in the JBEI proposal will be achieved. Furthermore, this Career-Track Research Scientist will be expected to contribute to development of future research programs at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Research and Program Development:
    • Establish a highly competitive independent research program that will focus on:
    • Development of tools to study metabolite flows and metabolic channeling in cell wall biosynthesis
    • Characterization of the composition of subcellular compartments using advanced proteomics and/or metabolomics
    • Biochemistry of cell wall biosynthesis
    • Characterization of cell wall composition and structure
    • Supporting the proteomics and/or metabolomics needs of the feedstock team
    • Develop research proposals that lead to continued funding, prepare and submit manuscripts for publication, and prepare documents for securing Intellectual Property Rights.
    Operations and Personnel Management:
