    Opportunity: Director, Advanced Biomedical Computing Center (#602367) @ Leidos Biomedical Research -- Frederick, MD (US)

    BACKGROUND

    Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. is seeking a strategic and innovative (Director) to manage and direct the scientific support efforts at the Advanced Biomedical Computing Center (ABCC). The ABCC is a part of the Information Systems Program at Leidos Biomedical, and provides technology development, scientific consultation, collaboration and training, and high-performance computing support to the NCI and NIH scientists and staff in selected areas of focus such as targeted genomics, integrated data analysis, in vivo and cellular imaging, visualization and molecular modeling.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The successful candidate will be responsible for budgets, reports, personnel reviews, and monitoring deliverables to the NCI. The individual will also be tasked with strategic oversight of the informatics operations including evaluation of new technologies and associated bioinformatics support needs. The successful candidate will also have a robust network of relationships with outside R&D institutes and centers, and foster expansion of collaborations and partnerships using our new National Laboratory channels (such as cCRADA's). In addition, the successful candidate will direct efforts to optimize and unify aspects for coordinated operations and efforts between laboratory-based and informatics staff. The successful candidate will be expected to establish strong cross-team efforts with other technology research directorates and senior management across the Frederick National Laboratory. In addition, this position will oversee the Information & Security Compliance Office (ISCO) responsible for coordinating information and IT security policies and practices across the Frederick National Lab and the NCI-Frederick. ISCO is the official NCI-Frederick office for the local information security officers (ISSOs) and serves as the point of contact for most NIH security compliance requirements as well as responses to security incidents.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college/university in Bioinformatics or a related field, or six (6) years equivalent experience in lieu of the degree.
    • Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
    • In addition to education requirements, the candidate must have ten (10) years related experience including a minimum of four (4) years in a senior leadership position.
    • The candidate must have expert knowledge and extensive experience in bioinformatics and computational biology.
    • Must have proven experience directing teams engaged in multiple projects with many other investigators in a core model.
    • Experience using and developing bioinformatic discovery tools/pipelines and scientific programming skills.
    • Must have exceptional written and oral communication skills.
    • Experience working in a team-oriented environment.
    • This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.

    PREFERENCES

    • Ph.D. preferred.
    • Laboratory experience in bioinformatics or molecular biology.
    • Experience in bioinformatics applications in cancer research.
    • Experience in molecular biology and knowledge of laboratory operations, biochemistry, and cellular and tissue-based cancer research.
    • Other areas of relevant cross-discipline biomedical research will also be considered.
