Opportunity: Bioinformatics Postdoc for Immunology Applications @ La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology -- La Jolla, CA (US)
Submitted by Michelle Fujisaki; posted on Tuesday, March 04, 2014
We are looking for a talented and highly motivated postdoc to join the Immune Epitope Database and Analysis Resource (IEDB) bioinformatics team as part of Bjoern Peters' lab ( at LJI in San Diego, California. The candidate will have the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary team of immunologists and bioinformaticians, building software tools to analyze experimental data and predicting immune responses to improve the basic understanding of the immune system. The resulting tools will be made available in the Immune Epitope Database (, an NIH-funded bioinformatics resource with a large user base in academia and industry. Also, tools will be directly applied in multiple in-house projects to develop improved diagnostics, vaccines and immunotherapeutics in the Peters and Sette lab.

Interested candidates are required to have a PhD degree. The degree will ideally be in bioinformatics, but candidates with equivalent skills and interests in computer science, statistics, and biomedicine will also be considered.

Fluency in at least one programming language and the ability to quickly master new tools is required. Practical experience with Python, Perl, R, Java, C/C++, Linux, and web server development (ideally Django) is desirable. Existing background knowledge of immunology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics is a strong plus. Great communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team are essential. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

LJI is a great place to work as a postdoc. It was recently ranked as one of the world's top 5 immunology research institutes based on literature citations, and was ranked #1 in a survey of postdocs as "best places to work" worldwide by the Scientist.

Interested individuals should send their curriculum vitae and the names of three references to careers[at]
