Opportunity: Bioinformatician with focus on high throughput sequence data analysis (RNA-seq) & pathway analysis/modeling @ U. of Bern, Switzerland
Submitted by Matteo Frey; posted on Monday, April 14, 2014
BACKGROUND
SynaptiX – a SystemsX RTD (Reasearch, Technology, Development) – is a collaborative research program that will systematically investigate the biology of forgetting in Drosophila in an interdisciplinary fashion by combining theory, behavioral experiments and genetic engineering, transcriptomics, and super-resolution microscopy.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The main responsibility of the jobholder will be the design, analysis and interpretation as well as pathway analysis and network modeling of the complex RNA-seq data generated within the project. Therefore, we are seeking a creative, flexible and highly motivated bioinformatician to join the Interfaculty Bioinformatics Unit of the University of Bern/Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics in Bern, Switzerland.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate has a PhD in bioinformatics, biology, computer science, or a related field with proven expertise in the management and analysis of large-scale datasets. In particular, experience with sequencing data (e.g. Illumina/IonTorrent/PacBio)is required. Very good skills with LINUX/UNIX operating systems are essential. Experience in pathway analyses or network modeling will be considered as an advantage. Furthermore, a strong background in at least one scripting or programming language (Perl, Python, Java, C++) and experience with R/Bioconductor is mandatory.
The ability to work independently and efficiently is a prerequisite, as is the ability to effectively interact with researchers from the other members of the SynaptiX consortium and the IBU group member in a team-oriented manner. English is essential, since this is the working language of the unit. Some knowledge of German is helpful but is not a prerequisite.
TERMS
Full-time position for 3 years with the possibility of extension. You will be employed by the University of Bern.
Starting date: May 2014 or upon negotiation.
LOCALE
