    BACKGROUND

    We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic post-doctoral scientist to join Professor Chris Ponting's research group in the internationally renowned MRC Functional Genomics Unit at the University of Oxford. This one year post is ideal for a newly graduated scientist who is seeking computational RNA biology experience before specializing in one area of genomics.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    You will join Prof. Ponting's Computational Genomics group that has established an international reputation for genome-scale data analyses, disease genomics, and function prediction for coding or non-coding sequence. The post will provide core biological and computational expertise in lncRNA genomics and in next-generation sequence analysis to a large experimental group working on lncRNAs.

    REQUIREMENTS & PREFERENCES

    With a PhD / DPhil in the field of computational biology, bioinformatics, statistical genetics or comparative genomics, experience of scripting (e.g. Perl/Python), advanced UNIX and administering a Linux system are essential. Expertise in sequence analysis tools in biological research, current bioinformatics tools and resources, functional genomics and method development will also be desirable. Excellent organisational and communication skills will be required, together with the ability to work well within a team.

    TERMS & COMPENSATION

    Fixed term post on Grade 7: GBP 29,837 to GBP 36,661, with a discretionary range to GBP 38,907 p.a.

    LOCALE

    You will work in the MRC Unit within the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics at the University of Oxford, UK.

    The Functional Genomics Unit is a world-renowned centre for comparative genomics and research into neurological disorders. We offer excellent computational and laboratory facilities in the Henry Wellcome Building of Gene Function.
