    Opportunity: API Software Tester (Bioinformatics Cloud Application) (#48348BR) @ SRA International -- Rockville, MD (US)

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    SRA is seeking a Bioinformatics Software Tester to join our new program in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) which will make genomics data available to the worldwide scientific community on the Cloud using API and the world renowned Google Genomics technology. You will be responsible for testing systems and software on an enterprise-scale system used to store, standardize, retrieve, and analyze large-scale cancer genomics data and metadata, and particularly for API design and development. The successful candidate will closely interact with other scientists on the team and cancer researchers worldwide in testing software used for requesting data, executing workflows, and performing analysis of the data.

    In this role, you will be testing the implementation of a new enterprise system to run on the cloud for cancer genomics, using both pre-existing Government data sets as well as data uploaded by the cancer research community. The role will be thoroughly creating, performing and documenting test cases and their results, and participating in a team writing user, system and software documentation. Position is for full time employment with SRA and will be based in our Rockville offices, working Monday through Friday (part time telework from home is allowed with manager approval).

    Key responsibilities will involve testing research systems for use in a high demand scientific environment:
    • Develop, write and run test cases on RESTful Web services and JSON APIs, user interfaces, back end SQL database, virtual machine usage and cloud computing technologies.
    • Use Python or other scripting languages to create tests; implement as required other automated testing tools, such as Selenium, py.txt, unittest, pytext for optimum and efficient testing
    • Write technical documentation for the software developed.
    • Write and implement thorough and effective software test cases based on communication with both scientists and IT specialists to understand how they use the data, the system/software for cancer research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of many cancers.
    • Test the use of Google's Cloud Platform and Google Genomics APIs for this pilot project
    • Work with a world-class team of scientists and bioinformatics professionals
    • Use Agile methodology to provide rapid iterations and collaborate with other a team of other Developers and Testers

    PREFERENCES

    • Bachelors degree and 3+ years Software Testing / QA experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
    • Hands-on experience developing/writing and running test cases in a Unix/Linux environment
    • Experience with Python or other scripting languages to create tests
    • Knowledge of SQL and its application in databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
    • Experience writing technical documentation of developed software.
