    Opportunity: Scientific HPC positions @ SRA International -- Bethesda, MD (US)

    DESCRIPTION

    SRA seeks immediate resumes for a bid for HPC supercomputing work at NIH's Center for Information Technology. In addition to the specific key positions listed below, there will be more openings if awarded.

    1) HPC Cluster Architect – Senior SME (part time)
    Provide technical knowledge and analysis of highly specialized applications and operational environment, high-level functional systems analysis, design, integration, documentation and implementation advice on moderately complex problems that require an appropriate level of knowledge of the subject matter for effective implementation. Apply principles, methods and knowledge of the functional area of capability to specific Delivery Order requirements, advanced mathematical principles and methods to exceptionally difficult and narrowly defined technical problems in engineering and other scientific applications to arrive at automated solutions. Assist other senior consultants with analysis and evaluation and with the preparation of recommendations for system improvements, optimization, development, and/or maintenance efforts in the following specialties: information systems architecture, networking; telecommunications, automation; communications protocols, risk management/electronic analysis, software; lifecycle management, software development methodologies, and modeling and simulation. Commensurate experience in IT and in new and related older technology that directly relates to the required area of expertise.

    Specific area of expertise: large-scale HPC systems utilizing high-speed network technology and high-performance file systems. Possesses requisite knowledge and expertise so recognized in the professional community that the Government is able to qualify the individual as an expert in the field for an actual Delivery Order. Provides technical direction for problem definition, analysis, requirements development and implementation for complex to extremely complex systems in the subject matter area. Applies principles, methods, and knowledge of specific functional areas of expertise to specific requirements. Provides advice on esoteric problems that require extensive knowledge of the subject matter. Makes recommendations and advises on system-wide systems improvements, optimization or maintenance efforts. Devises or modifies methods to solve complex problems utilizing knowledge of their areas(s) of specialization. Ensures that proposed solutions or methodologies are clear, concise, and technically correct. Ensures that the proposed methods are consistent with the operation of the overall functional model or system. Demonstrates exceptional oral and written communication skills. This position requires a graduate degree (a doctoral degree is preferred), a respected publication record, and a minimum of seven years' experience working in the field of expertise.

    2) HPC System Administrator – Level 3
    Perform the daily activities of configuration and operation of systems which may be mainframe, mini, or client/server based. Perform the optimizing of system operation and resource utilization, and perform system capacity analysis and planning. Provide assistance to users in accessing and using business systems. Commensurate experience and education. Work as a technical leader to implement solutions to current problems and future deficiencies in our HPC environment in conjunction with junior and senior administrators and technical members of other HPC teams.

    Required skills include:
    • Bachelor's Degree in IT is required. Master's Degree in IT or RedHat certifications preferred.
    • Minimum 5 years applicable experience in RedHat 6 or 7
    • Extensive knowledge and experience with building, configuration and administration of Linux computer systems
    • Extensive knowledge of the Linux computer operating system
    • Extensive experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing hardware failures to component level on servers; coordinates with vendors to resolve hardware and software problems
    • Ability to produce complete documentation on all site-specific configuration modifications
    • Knowledge and experience with scripting in Perl, bash or Python
    • Experience programming in Python, C/C++, etc desirable
    • Experience with system performance monitoring and tuning in an HPC cluster environment (e.g., Collectd, Ganglia, Sysstat)
    • Working knowledge of networking concepts and technology such as Ethernet, Infiniband and Fibre channel
    • In depth understanding of TCP/IP networking, basic routing, and network services
    3) HPC Storage Administrator – Level 3
    Perform the daily activities of configuration and operation of systems which may be mainframe, mini, or client/server based. Perform the optimizing of system operation and resource utilization, and perform system capacity analysis and planning. Provide assistance to users in accessing and using business systems. Commensurate experience and education. Work as a technical leader to implement solutions to current problems and future deficiencies in our HPC environment in conjunction with junior and senior administrators and technical members of other HPC teams.

    Required Skills include:
    • Bachelor's Degree in IT is required. Master's Degree in IT or RedHat certifications preferred.
    • Minimum 5 years applicable experience in RedHat 6 or 7
    • In-depth knowledge of Linux systems, storage devices and storage data management tools
    • Knowledge and experience with scripting in Perl, bash or Python
    • Working knowledge of networking concepts and technology such as Ethernet, Infiniband and Fibre channel
    • Knowledge of data transfer tools such as Globus, bbcp, rsync, and bittorrent
    • Minimum 4 years experience managing two or more of the following systems or services:
      • Expert knowledge of HPC relevant hardware and software system, network and storage architectures (DDN, Panasas, IBM) and technologies (GPFS, Lustre, PanFS)
      • Experience or expertise with HPC filesystem and archive technologies such as HPSS, TSM, object storage.
      • Experience in a NetApp storage environment working with Data OnTap 8.x
      • Managing TCP/IP networking, basic routing, and network services.
      • Managing backing up high-performance filesystems
      • Knowledge of tape drives, tape libraries, Fibre Channel devices and switches
      • Knowledge of backup software such as NetBckup, TSM, etc
      • Test and monitor backup, and recovery processes and performance
      • Ability to diagnose, identify, and troubleshoot errors between various backup components
