Submitted by Human Resources; posted on Monday, November 23, 2015

    BACKGROUND

    About Dana-Farber:
Located in Boston, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute brings together world renowned clinicians, innovative researchers and dedicated professionals, allies in the common mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. Combining extremely talented people with the best technologies in a genuinely positive environment, we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all ages; we conduct research that advances treatment; we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers; we reach out to underserved members of our community; and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

    Overview:
The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute seeks a Genomic Data and Scientific Content Curator to collect, maintain, and quality control genomic and clinical data at DFCI, to curate genomic criteria for clinical trials at DFCI, and to curate clinically actionable mutations in cancer. This is an essential role for building precision medicine platforms within DFCI, for connecting genomic profiles to clinical trials, and for maintaining data within the public, open source cBioPortal for Cancer Genomics (http://cbioportal.org), and the local cBioPortal instance running within DFCI.

The Genomic Data and Scientific Content Curator is an exceptional candidate who has extensive clinical and/or biological expertise, cancer genomics expertise and bioinformatics skills.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Curate genomic criteria for clinical trials, and structure such criteria in computational format. Work with clinicians to review clinical trial eligibility and develop a comprehensive review process for genomically annotating all clinical trials at DFCI.
    • Work with multiple disease centers at DFCI to understand their specific clinical and research questions, and assist with deposition of clinical and genomic data into the cBioPortal at DFCI.
    • Curate the known effects of recurrent oncogenic mutations, and link clinically actionable mutations to approved therapies. Work with the scientific leadership to develop a crowd-sourcing initiative to annotate clinically actionable mutations in cancer.
    • Perform data quality control and conversion for import into cBioPortal.
    • Identify and collect relevant data sets from the scientific literature and public databases.
    • Assist cBioPortal users with questions about the data and perform training sessions.
    • Update website content, write the user manual for the cBioPortal and help prepare educational and training documents.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • PhD in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics (or equivalent) (or a Masters Degree with two years of work experience)
    • Knowledge of cancer genomics and genomic data, including next-generation sequencing data
    • Strong interest in contributing to biological research with clinical applications
    • Bioinformatics skills (Unix, scripting, ideally in Python)
    • Strong communication skills (written and oral)
    • Strong attention to detail
The candidate must demonstrate outstanding personal initiative and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to meet deadlines and efficiently multitask is a must.
