    Opportunity: Senior HPC Linux Systems Engineer (#6263) @ SRA International -- Rockville, MD (US)

    BACKGROUND

    We are seeking an innovative, dedicated, and highly-motivated High Performance Computing (HPC) Engineer to solve challenging problems for our client, a large scientific and medical research agency. If working with a 3000+ core HPC cluster, providing support for bioinformatics applications to a large research community, and creating scalable and optimal solutions sounds interesting to you, then please apply. Position is for full time employment with SRA and will be based at the clients office in Rockville, MD. Flexible schedule around core business hours, Monday - Friday; and 1 day a week telework is allowed with manager approval and once established.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Perform architecture design and day-to -day operational maintenance, support and upgrades for a 3000+ core high performance compute cluster.
    • Support various platforms including Red Hat Enterprise Linux and CentOS.
    • Develop and implement innovative and complex solutions, ensuring that upgrades and changes comply with established guidelines and processes.
    • Help further develop and execute high performance computing solutions using cluster/grid technologies.
    • Serve as a senior member of the team responsible for the planning and development of a robust and scalable management infrastructure for Linux computing resources.
    • Apply in-depth HPC and Linux expertise to collaborate with stakeholders across IT and domain disciplines to expand HPC use in support of world class, cutting-edge scientific research.
    • Advise on HPC technology directions and investments and assist with the resolution of the most difficult system problems.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelors degree and 6+ years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • 5+ years of experience with Linux/Unix variants, especially RedHat/RHEL and its derivatives
    • 5+ years of experience supporting high performance clusters with Grid Engine experience (in any variant) or other schedulers such as PBS, Moab, or SLURM
    • Hands-on experience supporting IBM Spectrum Scale (formerly GPFS)
    • Demonstrated working knowledge of popular bioinformatics applications and ability to compile, package, install, and upgrade software as well as assist researchers with job submission scripts
    • Experience architecting and supporting Infiniband networks
    • SAN/NAS hardware experience
    • Ability to clearly present ideas to both technical and non-technical users in formal and informal settings
    • Demonstrated decision-making skills and leadership ability to assist with management of project portfolio and daily operations for team

    PREFERENCES

    • Automation/configuration management experience (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt, etc.)
    • Scripting experience (Perl, Python, Ruby, R, bash, etc)
    • Experience running parallel jobs with OpenMP or MPI
    • Knowledge of GPU computation and CUDA
    • Experience configuring and running BrightCluster Management Software
