Opportunity: Genetic Data Bioinformatics Analyst @ Deep Genomics -- Toronto, ON, Canada
Submitted by Daniele Merico; posted on Wednesday, December 02, 2015
BACKGROUND
Deep Genomics is inventing machine learning systems to discover how cells read and interpret the genome, taking computational genome diagnostics to the next level. We combine world-leading expertise in deep learning, genome biology, and precision medicine.
RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatics analyst to perform genetic variant annotation tasks, manage variant data-sets from collaborators as well as publicly available resources, and help design and implement benchmarks for variant annotation algorithms, including our in-house machine learning algorithms. Other analysis tasks may include RNA-seq data analysis and gene pathway analysis. The position will report to the Director of Molecular Diagnostics.
REQUIREMENTS
The candidate will have a M.Sc. or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering or related fields. Solid knowledge of scripting languages (Python and one of Perl, R or Ruby), SQL and Linux are strictly required. Solid understanding of basic machine learning concepts (training, cross validation, features, regularization, etc.) and performance metrics (Log Likelihood, AUROC, AUPR, etc.) are required. Excellent communication, team work skills and attention to details are required.
PREFERENCES
Prior experience with variant annotation tools (Annovar, VEP, SnpEff) and human genetics research data are highly desired. Experience with RNA-seq or other NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) type of analyses are also highly desired. Experience with pathway and network analysis is a plus. Experience with relational (MySQL) and non-relational (MongoDB) databases is a plus. Strong preference will be given to Canadian citizens, permanent residents as well as graduates of a Canadian institution eligible for a post-graduation work permit.
TERMS
Full time, no end term.
LOCALE
The work will be conducted at Deep Genomics main office, MaRS Discovery District, Toronto. Toronto is a major international centre of computer science, genomics and human genetics research; there will ample opportunity for professional development through research seminars, workshops and research in progress meetings.
COMPENSATION
Salary is commensurate with education and qualifications.
