Opportunity: Postdoctoral Position in Bioinformatics and Computational Genomics @ University of Manitoba -- Winnipeg, MB, Canada
Submitted by Pingzhao Hu; posted on Tuesday, January 19, 2016

    BACKGROUND

One postdoctoral position in computational genomics is immediately available at the University of Southern California. Research in the lab focused on developing genomics and bioinformatics methods to understand the genetic basis of human diseases. Examples of ongoing projects include the development of fully automated pipelines for genome and exome sequencing analysis and clinical-grade variant annotation, the development of statistical models to predict patient survival and optimize drug treatment regimens for cancer, the utilization of bigdata framework to analyze genetic data and literature data. For more information about our research, please check http://wglab.org.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will develop and implement statistical/computational methods for analyzing data from high-throughput DNA and RNA sequencing studies on mental disorders, and for predicting the functionality of coding/non-coding variants in disease pathogenesis. The candidate may also perform analysis on real data, to evaluate and improve computational methods. Projects may be tailored to suit the candidate's research interest and expertise.

    REQUIREMENTS

A suitable candidate should have a doctoral degree in a quantitative field, such as bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics or computer science, with strong interest in genomics. A successful candidate should have sufficient experience in algorithm development, scientific programming, and machine learning.

    HOW TO APPLY

To apply for this position, please email a cover letter, a CV, a statement of research interest, and contact information for three references to
