    EXCERPT

Medications are metabolized through different genetic pathways in a person's liver, which can range from overactive to inhibited, and then they have different points of response in the brain. We [analyze] the person's individual genetic profile to predict whether they will respond well to a medication or have severe gene-drug interactions. So we are matching the patient's genetic profile with how the drug works. We are looking at 12 genes and 55 medications with high precision; it's possible to have over 330,000 different possible patient reports. What it means for a doctor who sees 1,000 to 2,000 patients: They may never see two patients alike.
