    Opportunity: Senior Biostatistician, Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Initiative @ University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The University of Illinois's Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Initiative (IHSI), formed to catalyze Health Sciences-related activities on campus and with our clinical partners, is seeking a Senior Biostatistician, whose primary responsibility is to manage the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Biostatistical Core and to provide expert biostatistical guidance to the clients of the core.     The Senior Biostatistician will:
    • Coordinate all activities of the Biostatistical Core, including but not limited to: project prioritizing and assignment; overall work flow of Core; partnering with IHSI communications team to manage web presence, online forms; billings coordination with IHSI business office; and campus outreach and statistical trainings.
    • Supervise all personnel of the Biostatistical Core, including directing and prioritizing work duties, and completing annual performance evaluations for employees.
    • Assess long-term needs and resources to provide guidance to IHSI director for strategic planning purposes.
    • Keep abreast of current and new, novel biostatistical methods.
    • Keep abreast of software that advances clinical/translational research.
    • Provide expert statistical services and support for study design, and statistical analysis using the appropriate computation and graphical software.
    • Provide expert advisement to faculty/staff and physicians for the statistical portions of grant applications - review objectives, determine sample size, specify analysis plan.
    • Coordinate database management with the Bioinformatics Core Facility staff on an as-needed project basis.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Required Qualifications:
    • PhD in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or related field
    • A minimum of three years in statistical consulting or related field
    • Demonstrated and successful record working independently in conceptualizing research study design and conducting analysis of complex data
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • General knowledge of academic structure
    • Strong background with statistics and experience with statistical software and packages
    • Possess attention to detail with excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to interface in a professional manner with a wide variety of internal and external constituents, including faculty/staff, university administration, physicians

    PREFERENCES

    Preferred qualifications:
    • Experience managing complex workflows
    • Previous positions within a Biostatistical Core associated with a Medical College
    • Experience with supervisory and team management
    • Experience with data visualization tools and software
    • Understanding of the complexities of the University of Illinois' research enterprise
    • Fluency in at least one general purpose or scripting programming language, such as Java, Python, Ruby, or R
    • Experience with data visualization tools and software
    • Leadership skills for supervising and managing a team

    TERMS

    Proposed start date: As early as possible after closing date.

    Appointment status: Regular 100% time Academic Professional appointment / 12 month service basis. Benefit eligible position.

    COMPENSATION

    Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
