    BACKGROUND

    Omega Bio-tek, Inc, the leading provider of nucleic acid purification and next-generation sequencing, is seeking a bioinformatician to provide bioinformatics services to its customers, and to develop programs/pipelines for internal projects.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Omega Bio-tek provides next-generation sequencing services for clients all over the world. Our bioinformatics team handles bioinformatics analysis needs from all kinds of academic and clinic projects.

    As a bioinformatician you will:
    • Performs data management, data modeling, and software engineering to support bioinformatics analysis
    • Serving as knowledge source for bioinformatics applications to multiple cross-department groups in technology and business development
    • Working with international team of bioinformatics analysts in building tools and pipelines for standardized and scalable NGS data analysis projects
    • Collaborating with lab scientists in experimental design, execution, analysis, and validation for development of proprietary NGS application platforms and product lines
    • Leading the team's efforts in communicating with customers and collaborators for developing innovative bioinformatics solutions
    • Performs other duties as required

    REQUIREMENTS

    • MS degree required, PhD degree strongly desired in bioinformatics, computer science, genomics, or relevant field
    • At least 2 years of postgraduate training in academic or industry research is required with expertise operating in a high-throughput production environment
    • Cross-disciplinary and strong analytic skills, as well as broad experience with bioinformatics methods, databases, software, and computer programming languages are essential
    • Highly organized and self-directed individual who is able to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment
    Thorough experience with the following is required:
    • UNIX/LINUX environment
    • Next-generation sequence analysis packages (e.g. Samtools, GATK, QIIME, Tophat, Cufflinks)
    • Experience with metagenomics/16s/18s data analysis
    • Advanced programming skills (e.g. Python, Perl, Java, C/C++ )
    • Database management (e.g., both SQL and modern noSQL systems)
    • Statistical packages (e.g., R)
    • High performance computing
    Essential Skills/Attributes:
    • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
    • Detailed expertise and proven track record with bioinformatics concepts, methods, and tools
    • Strong organizational and troubleshooting abilities
    • Familiarity with genomic technologies
    • Proficiency with genomic data, tools, and databases
    • Experience with human cancer bioinformatics analysis desired
    • Demonstrated attention to detail and analytical skills
    • Excellent time management skills, especially involved the simultaneous management of multiple projects
    • Experience in software management strongly desired
    • Leadership skills and ability to work well in a team environment

    COMPENSATION

    Salary is commensurate with experience.
