Opportunity: Bioinformatics Specialist @ Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center -- Seattle, WA (US)

OVERVIEW
The Bioinformatics Specialist will report to the Director of the Genomics & Bioinformatics Shared Resources and will work with Fred Hutch scientists in refining computational research questions and developing analytical processes that can be applied to genomics datasets. Further support will be provided through educational avenues, i.e., consulting and formal course offerings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicate with researchers and identify appropriate bioinformatics tools to meet the needs of proposed research projects
- Develop, test, and implement standardized analytical pipelines to support common NextGen sequencing assays (e.g., RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, SNV/CNV)
- Provide support to Fred Hutch researchers, bioinformaticians, and computational biologists working with genomics data
- Consult and/or lead courses relating to programming issues and bioinformatics tools
- Work closely with Genomics Shared Resource staff to ensure maintenance of laboratory operations
- Participate in weekly staff meeting to discuss ongoing projects and provide advice and support to colleagues
REQUIREMENTS
- Individual will have a degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biology, genetics, or related discipline with a computational emphasis
- At least 3 years of relevant experience working with genomics data
- Experience with Linux/Unix shell scripting
- Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or R
- Proven track recorded of deep sequencing analysis showing a working knowledge of standard analysis tools (e.g., GATK, Tuxedo Suite tools) and relevant databases
- The individual should be self-motivated, perform in a highly independent manner, and possess strong interest in the biological sciences
- Solid communication and organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to be creative in problem-solving situations

- 5+ years of relevant experience working with genomics data
