RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a talented, highly motivated, goal oriented computational biologist/data scientist for a postdoctoral research position to implement genomic and bioinformatics approached to study plant-virus interactions. Our research program focuses on molecular mechanisms of plant-virus interactions, particularly, antiviral defense and virus replication. The successful candidate will lead a project to develop innovative computational approaches to systematically generate and analyze protein, transcript and small RNA sequencing data. Our lab is located at the Nebraska Center for Virology and is part of the Department of Plant Pathology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to mentor both undergraduate and graduate students.
REQUIREMENTS
- Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, molecular biology, plant biology, genetics, plant pathology, or closely related discipline
- Excellent scientific and writing skills
- Experience generating protein or RNA sequencing data or strong willingness to learn
- Ability to work both independently and in a team setting
PREFERENCES
- Highly proficient in Perl or Python programming
- Experience analyzing proteomic or next generation sequencing data, as demonstrated by publications
TERMS
Up to five years with satisfactory progress.

COMPENSATION
Salary and benefits are as determined by NIH standards.
