BACKGROUND
The School of Computer Science and Engineering at California State University San Bernardino seeks a visionary and collaborative individual for the position of Assistant Professor/tenure track. The position is contingent on funding. The position is primarily to support the B.S. in Bioinformatics degree program, which is a new and growing program at CSUSB. The School also offers the degrees B.S. in Computer Science, B.S.in Computer Engineering, B.A. in Computer Systems, and M.S. in Computer Science.
California State University, San Bernardino is a comprehensive regional university that serves approximately 20,700 students and offers 47 undergraduate, 35 graduate, one doctoral degree and 13 academic programs with national accreditation. RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will also teach core and elective courses in computer science and actively contribute to the school's curriculum development. The successful candidate will maintain a robust research agenda, pursue external research funding, supervise student research, and perform academic advising and mentoring. The successful candidate will also provide service to the School, the College, the University, as well as the community and the profession.
REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Bioinformatics or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Computer Science specializing in Bioinformatics. ABO candidates may be considered; the doctoral degree is required at the time of appointment.
We are particularly interested in candidates with strengths in the application of computer science and mathematics in the analysis and interpretation of biological data, and the formal algorithms, both proven or heuristic, required for bioinformatics. These include genomics, proteomics, functional in vivo modeling, as well as newly emerging areas. A documented commitment to excellence in teaching, research and service is expected.
