Opportunity: 3 PostDocs in BIOINFORMATICS at Biotec, TU Dresden, Germany
Submitted by michael schroeder; posted on Monday, March 29, 2004
    DESCRIPTION:
The bioinformatics group of the BioInnovation Centre of TU Dresden
    invites applications for

    3 PostDoc positions in bioinformatics.

We seek to recruit outstanding candidates with an interest in
understanding genome, transcriptome, proteome or metabolome data. We
are particularly interested in candidates with a strong track record
in protein structure, protein/DNA/ligand interaction, gene expression
and metabolic pathway data analysis deploying/developing techniques
such as threading, homology modelling, docking, clustering,
datamining, statistics. However, any outstanding candidate will be
    considered.

    REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates should possess a PhD in computational, physical,
mathematical or life sciences with a good publication record. The
salary scale is BAT-O IIa. Exact pay depends on age and status.

The positions are part of the project "CODI, the Classification Of
Domain Interfaces", which will characterise the sequence and structure
of protein interactions extracted from the protein databank PDB. CODI
starts in June 2004 and is initially funded until March 2006.

The candidate will join the bioinformatics group, which is located in
the new BioInnovation Centre of TU Dresden. The centre hosts academic
groups dedicated to genomics, proteomics, biophysics, cellular
machines, and bioinformatics as well as biotech companies. It is
located in close proximity to the Max-Planck Institute for Cell
Biology and Genetics. The bioinformatics effort of the Biotec is
currently expanding by two additional junior groups.

Besides a host of biological services available through the Biotec and
the MPI, the bioinformatics group has access to a unique
high-performance computing infrastructure, which is planned for early
    2005 and which will comprise a 1000 Linux-PC cluster and a machine
with 2TB main memory and 50TB disc space.

Dresden is a beautiful City in the East of Germany halfway between
Berlin and Prague. Known as "Florence on the river Elbe" it boasts an
old town with famous buildings such as the Semper Opera, the
Frauenkirche, and the Zwinger. Dresden has a rich cultural life with
an opera, theatre, concert hall and a thriving night life. The
standard of living is high with good schools and medical services, as
well as beautiful surrounding countryside known as "Saxon
    Switzerland".
