    Opportunity: Senior BIOINFORMATICS ANALYST at Northwestern University

    DESCRIPTION:
    The successful candidate must be self motivated and will interact on a daily basis with the members of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Analyst will also interact with a diverse group of prominent life science researchers both internal and external to Northwestern. The responsibilities of the Analyst will be to work with a broad network of life science researchers on problems related to data handling, analysis, data interpretation, and system design. Successful applicants will have demonstrated excellence in bioinformatics, data analysis, systems design, team driven scientific software development, genomics or informatics.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    Candidates should have: Significant and extensive project management skills, previous experience defining data exchange or data definition standards, demonstrated team building skills, ability to work with a ?virtual community?, strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. The following technical skills are expected: a working knowledge of a general purpose programming language such as C, Java, C++; extensive work with Perl and at least some familiarity with BioPerl; a thorough understanding of database application development using an SQL-compliant database such as Oracle; a clear understanding of the concepts involved in building distributed web-based database applications; and an interest in distributed data exchange and workload architectures such as web services. Candidates should demonstrate that they understand biological research and can develop applications to aid life science researchers. A PhD in EE, CS, Statistics or the life sciences including related fields such as Math, Physics and Chemistry with three years of significant, continuous postgraduate experience in systems design, scientific software projects, statistics or informatics is required. Experience in Microarray or proteomic data analysis and R is a plus. Experience in an academic computing environment would be helpful but not required. Experience in an academic biological research laboratory would also be helpful but is not required.

    The position will directly report to the Associate Director for Bioinformatics Consulting in the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center. Generous educational benefits are available.
