Opportunity: BIOINFORMATICS Software Engineer--Mountain View, CA (US)
Submitted by Susan Becker; posted on Monday, August 28, 2006

At Perlegen Sciences, we conduct genetics research and develop products that impact and improve people’s lives. Established in March 2001, we are a well-funded, pre-IPO company engaged in exploiting ultra-high-throughput genotyping technology to unravel the genetic architecture of complex traits and bring drugs to market whose clinical development would have otherwise been discontinued. We’re changing forever the way medicine is practiced. See what Perlegen can do for you.

We currently have an exciting opening for a Bioinformatics Software Engineer to aid in the analysis and preparation of sequence and primers, as well as to assist colleagues in issues related to these design elements. We’ll rely on you to analyze and design genetic sequence and primers for our association studies, place Perlegen’s data in new contexts, make resulting information easily accessible, and quickly respond to questions about Perlegen’s SNPs and assays in relation to the human genome. You will also examine past primer performance and make recommendations for design process improvements.

To qualify, you must be a team player who is both meticulous and insightful. You should have at least a BS in CS/EE or equivalent with a strong genetics/molecular biology background and/or a BS in Biology with a very strong computational background. Excellent Perl, SQL, PL/SQL, analytical and communication skills, the ability to work in both Windows and Linux environments, proven ability to find and refine relationships between and within data-sets, and proficiency manipulating and dissecting large data collections are essential. Two or more years of bioinformatics development experience preferred. Access and .NET skills as well as competency with statistics would be a plus.

For consideration, please email your resume, indicating Job Code GN22, to perlegen_HR[at]; mail, again indicating Job Code GN22, to Perlegen Sciences, 2021 Stierlin Court, Mountain View, CA 94043; or fax to 650-625-4580.
