Opportunity: Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Biology @ EBI--Cambridge, UK
Submitted by Paul Bertone; posted on Tuesday, December 12, 2006

A postdoctoral position in computational biology is available in the group of Dr. Paul Bertone at the EMBL European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) in Cambridge, England. We are using genomic and bioinformatics approaches to investigate the molecular processes underlying mammalian stem cell differentiation and lineage commitment. Computational biologists are sought to participate in ongoing collaborations with experimental laboratories, and to lead new research projects in human and mouse embryonic and neural stem cell characterization.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the analysis and interpretation of data from microarray experiments and high-throughput proteomic assays, as well as the development of new analytical methodologies. Projects will focus on large-scale gene expression profiling, comparative genomics and regulatory systems modeling.

Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. Bioinformatics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or Biochemistry/Molecular Biology with a computational component). Candidates with a solid background in computation and current knowledge of eukaryotic genetics will be considered.

Expertise in at least one high-level programming language (e.g., Lisp, Java, Perl) is essential, and familiarity with numerical computing software (e.g., Matlab, Mathematica, R) would be advantageous. Some experience with heterogeneous data integration, microarray analysis, statistics and network modeling is desirable. The post holder will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, fluency in English, and enjoy working in an international team environment.

A contract of 1 year’s duration will be offered to the successful candidate with the possibility of extension.

    Cambridge, UK

To apply for this position, candidates should email a cover letter, CV, list of publications and the names and addresses of at least three referees quoting reference number W/06/PD/22 in the subject line, to: application[at]
