    Opportunity: BIOINFORMATICIAN position at TGen--Phoenix, AZ (US)

    TGen’s Bioinformatics Research Unit is looking for an experienced bioinformatics programmer to join the team. The successful applicant will apply bioinformatics, database and programming skills to assist TGen scientific staff in identifying relevant data sources, automating repetitive bioinformatics tasks, extracting custom datasets, developing data analysis tools and translating prototype informatics tools into more polished tools suitable for wider usage or release to the scientific community.


    The successful applicant will be required to work independently and must be able to manage their time across multiple concurrent projects. The primary development language is perl although expertise in other languages such as java, C, C++, PHP or R would also be useful. The development environment is Unix.
    Tasks include:
    •Analyze research requirements by talking to researchers.
    •Design software to meet requirements
    •Implement software
    •Test Software
    •Document Software
    •Deploy Software
    •Prepare journal publication detailing software
    •Maintain software


    Five years and Bachelors Degree should be in computer science or biology. Bachelors level degree in Computing, Biology or related field
    •Bioinformatics experience
    •Unix / Linux / Mac OS X
    •Relational database expertise including SQL and schema design


    Object-oriented Perl
    •R / S-plus
    •CVS / SVN
    •Strong statistics or mathematics
