    Duties
Essential - Under the supervision of a Research Scientist in the Ecology Department, incumbent will be responsible for designing and implementing, novel algorithms for DNA probe selection, and microarray analysis including statistical summarization of results. Present research at scientific conferences, publish research results in peer-reviewed journals and assist with proposal development.

Marginal - Perform semi-routine bioinformatics assignments such as the collection and processing of genomic data, interfacing with public and private databases, and creating web applications to view array design and experimental results.

    Qualifications
Essential - Ph.D. in related discipline (microbiology, molecular biology, computer science). Demonstrated experience in software design preferably in a field of molecular biology. Demonstrated expertise in comparative genomics, DNA microarray design and analysis, database administration, SQL, phylogenetic analysis. Knowledge of modern nucleic acid techniques such as PCR amplification, DNA cloning and sequencing, hybridization and GenBank tools. Excellent written and oral communications skills and the ability to interact with a multidisciplinary team of biologists, physicians, software developers, research associates, other post-docs and students in the work group and at collaborating institutes in industry and academia.

Marginal - Familiarity with some or all of the following would be desirable: Affymetrix GeneChip platforms and data analysis approaches, statistical analysis scripting in R, re-sequencing by hybridization using ABACUS or RATools software, Phred and Phrap for chromatogram management, process validation. Experience in the molecular nature of antibiotic resistance in bacteria. Linux system administration. Allocation of parallel processing/distributed systems. Object Oriented Perl using Catalyst frameworks. Version control systems. Desire to improve health care with accurate diagnostics.
