    Perlegen Sciences, Inc. is working to provide safer and more effective drugs to consumers. The company’s expertise is in understanding human genetic variation within and across diverse patient populations and in conducting studies aimed at identifying variations that are predictive of drug response. Perlegen has established a leadership role in analyzing millions of common, single nucleotide variations (SNPs) across the whole genome and is now completing the development of a similar leading capability in examining other types of DNA variation across the genome. Perlegen also applies its expertise to discovering genetic variations associated with disease that can enable the discovery of novel targets leading to new therapeutics, as well as clinically useful diagnostics and biomarkers.


    We currently have a unique and exciting opportunity for a key contributor to lead the day-to-day management of the informatics activities that support Perlegen Sciences’ world-class genomics discovery platforms. We'll rely on you to directly manage, supervise and mentor our teams of Bioinformaticians, DataQC Analysts and Statistical Geneticists who are responsible for the design, data QC and analysis of our genotyping and sequencing studies of novel genomic datasets, process improvement initiatives and other projects. You will also be expected to direct statistical and programming support activities, evaluate the material generated by the team for validity, quality and effectiveness of presentation and ensure that all study and project level informatics meets compliance and high quality standards. The ideal candidate will lead multiple teams and act as the company expert and resource on computational biology. A key role is as the integrator with project management, clinical research and other scientific leaders.


    The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics or a related field, a minimum of 10 years of related experience and 5+ years of successful management experience. Thorough knowledge of biology, genetics and data mining techniques and excellent communication skills are essential, along with a demonstrated track record in building effective working relationships across multiple organizations, sound judgment, creativity and the drive to lead innovative analysis ideas, strategies and tactics.
