    BACKGROUND

    St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, located in Memphis, Tennessee, is a premier center for research and treatment of potentially fatal childhood diseases, including cancer and certain blood, genetic, and immunodeficiency disorders. The hospital's mission is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. St. Jude is dedicated to providing unsurpassed patient care and to advancing the health of children through biomedical research.

    Currently, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has an opening for a Bioinformatics Database Developer (Job Number 16836).

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    The Bioinformatics Database Developer designs and implements scientific databases and database-enabled applications as directed to support basic research and other needs. The Developer creates inter/intranet web interfaces to list, edit, insert, or delete database records, and ensures that these interfaces are responsive, attractive, and easy to use. The Developer also modifies existing web-based databases as directed and assists in the technical management of web applications and web servers including software installation, configuration, testing and file management. The Developer writes non-web-based programs when needed, such as for updating databases or performing maintenance. Additionally, the Developer acts as a resource for those departments that do not have expertise in database development and assists them in using this technology as appropriate.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree is preferred
    • If Bachelor's degree, 2 years experience in database development and/or web development is required
    • If Master's degree, no additional work experience is required
    • Demonstrated proficiency in database development and/or web development is required
    • Experience programming database systems in Unix/Linux environments is required
    • Experience in coding standard SQL queries is required
    • Experience integrating databases with web applications is required
    • Biomedical or healthcare experience is preferred
    • Experience using LAMP technologies (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP/Perl) strongly preferred
    PREFERENCES: Master's degree is preferred
