Opportunity: Scientific Programmer/Perl with NIH/NHGRI @ Digicon Corporation--Bethesda, MD (US)

BACKGROUND
Digicon Corporation, established in 1985, is a full-service Information Technology Integrator and Provider servicing Network Engineering and Software Development to both government and commercial customers. Digicon employs approximately 300 employees throughout the Washington metropolitan area, as well as several other major cities across the nation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The ideal candidate will assist in designing databases for laboratory organization, sequence, microarray, proteomics and other genomics databases, clinical databases, and tools for supporting bioinformatics and scientific computing research projects. This includes the development or utilization of new or existing applications or software tools. The candidate will work closely with the bioinformatics support specialist and lab staff to analyze the project requirements, design the prototypes and implementing the systems to support various research projects, for example, dashboard for clinical trials, data management for Stem Cell research, statistics tools for gene expression analysis, etc. In addition, integration of software tools or databases into a viable platform is required and is essential to the success of scientists in the area of computational neuroscience and bioinformatics to be able to freely exchange and analyze data from different sources.
REQUIREMENTS
The candidate should have at least 1-2 years of scientific application development, algorithm implementation and programming experience in Java, XML or Perl scripting. In addition, the candidate should have solid knowledge and working experience of web database and application development technology with basic level understanding of molecular biology as well as excellent written and communication skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
