    BACKGROUND:
    Monsanto, an Ag industry leader creating scientific breakthroughs around the world, is passionate about using science and technology to improve agriculture. Monsanto scientists are conducting the research and development (R&D) to revolutionize plant breeding and biotechnology. The Technology Pipeline Solutions (TPS) team within IT works directly with the Monsanto scientists to develop software platforms that enable these research and development efforts. The accepted candidate will join the emerging field of IT systems informatics leveraging their training to play a key role in defining and delivering breakthrough science in high throughput R&D business platforms (Breeding, Breeding Technology, Biotechnology and Compliance) for Monsanto.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Monsanto is seeking a highly talented individual to work as a Strategic Scientist. This position is responsible for developing research strategies for discovery projects in Breeding and Biotechnology platforms. This involves integrating Breeding and Biotechnology pipelines through critical analysis of scientific trends in the business units in order to propose and develop scientifically sound novel approaches for scientific solutions. The Strategic Scientist will identify changes in state-of-the-art scientific technology in order to propose R&D software solutions to accommodate latest trends in data quantity and quality. The Strategic Scientist will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary scientists internal and external to Monsanto addressing the emerging changes in analytical scientific breakthroughs. The successful candidate will design and test algorithms and conduct prototyping to evaluate possible scenarios leveraging computational and statistical techniques for the development of novel approaches for high-throughput data analyses.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    - PhD in Biology with quantitative genetics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or Mathematics
    - 3+ years experience highly desired
    - Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills as well as proven problem solving abilities
    - Ability to work independently and establish necessary internal and external collaborations
