Opportunity: Systems Manager & Programmer, High Performance Computing Facility @ NYU Langone Medical Center--NY, NY (US)
Submitted by Connie Flogge; posted on Wednesday, October 21, 2009
    BACKGROUND:
NYU Langone Medical Center offers a world-class biomedical research environment that is undergoing significant expansion in health informatics and bioinformatics. Through the Center for Health Informatics and Bioinformatics (CHIBI), we are launching a cutting-edge shared computing facility to enable a wide range of scientific computing applications that include bioinformatics, imaging and clinical data mining projects. This facility, known as the High Performance Computing Facility (HPCF), will encompass several UNIX and Windows core units with Tesla accelerators and very large shared data storage capacity. Currently, we have an excellent opportunity available for a Systems Manager and Programmer.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
In this position you will play a major role in software development, and will help implement best practices specific to the field of high-performance scientific biomedical computation for the HPCF in support o molecular data analysis applications, among others. Areas of focus for best practices implementation include physical space access and specifications, local network and Internet connectivity, data storage and backups, job scheduling and programmatic interfaces. Working with the HPCF Technical Director, you will also assist HPCF users with the execution of projects, benchmarks, and hardware and software maintenance.

Additional responsibilities include helping the HPCF Applications Training Lead facilitate the development and implementation of training programs that teach scientists and students how to best utilize the HPCF for research projects; and assisting the HPCF Technical Director with the development and implementation of training programs for external programmers who wish to port or develop codes to run on the facility.

    REQUIREMENTS:
To qualify you must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree (PhD preferred) in Computer Science or Engineering or a related field along with a minimum of 2 years’ experience building architecture for high-end scientific computing resources.

    PREFERENCES:
Teaching experience at the university level is preferred. Excellent communication skills are essential to success. Preferred applicants will have record(s) of related research publication in high-performance scientific computation methods and applications.

    SALARY & BENEFITS:
We offer competitive compensation (commensurate with experience and qualifications) and a stimulating work environment.

    HOW TO APPLY:
For further information and to apply, please forward your comprehensive cover letter (including salary requirements) and resume to Manny Balderas at mbresumesubmission@nyumc.org or fax: 212-404-3888 (attn: MB-HPCF MGR). We are an equal opportunity employer.
