    Opportunity: BIOINFORMATICS Programmer @ Baylor College of Medicine HGSC--Houston, TX (US)

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    The Human Genome Sequencing Center (HGSC) at Baylor College of Medicine seeks Scientific Programmers with significant application development experience to support the advance of sequencing technology, genomics research, and analysis. As one of three large-scale sequencing centers funded by the National Institutes of Health, HGSC provides a unique opportunity to work with genomic scientists working at the frontiers of personalized medicine. The successful candidate will be developing and maintaining software for our laboratory information management systems as well as supporting other kinds of analysis.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    Candidates should have at least the equivalent of a B.S. degree in Computer Science and meet the following additional requirements:

    Education: Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related programming field.

    Required Skills & Experience:
    - Work experience with most of these: Unix, Java, SQL, XML, GWT, and scripting languages
    - Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
    - Good communication skills
    - Experience with testing frameworks

    PREFERENCES:
    Desirable Experience:
    - Extensive knowledge of Unix, SQL, or Tomcat
    - Knowledge of software best practices
    - Knowledge of and experience with JUnit
    - Familiarity with bioinformatics software tools

    HGSC is located in the Texas Medical Center and provides an academic environment that balances work and personal life.
