Opportunity: Assistant Professor of Informatics @ Indiana University Kokomo--Kokomo, IN (US)

BACKGROUND:
One of eight Indiana University campuses, Indiana University Kokomo is a comprehensive non-residential campus located 50 miles north of Indianapolis in Kokomo, Indiana, a city with a population of about 48,000. Committed to student success, the campus serves approximately 2800 students from an eleven county area in north central Indiana. An additional 220 students pursue degrees in technology in cooperation with Purdue University. IU Kokomo has approximately 240 faculty and staff and 125 part-time employees. The Department of Natural, Information and Mathematical Sciences invites applications for a full time, tenure-track, 10-month, informatics position at the assistant professor level beginning August 2010. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include teaching primarily courses for informatics majors. Course load will normally be three courses per semester (72% FTE). Research with undergraduates is expected and supported. Research and publication are required for promotion and tenure; scholarly activities in bioinformatics, health informatics, or other related areas are preferred. Appropriate university/professional/community service is also required including committee work, assessment of the major, and engaging in campus initiatives to increase retention and enrollment.
REQUIREMENTS:
Requirements include a doctorate in informatics or related field (ABDs near completion of dissertation will be considered and, if hired, will have until November of the second year to earn the doctorate which is required for tenure).
PREFERENCES:
Experience in teaching informatics or related courses at the undergraduate level, experience using teaching technologies, and experience working with undergraduates in research is desired.
