    Opportunity: BIOINFORMATICIAN, microarray/sequencing @ Functional Genomics Center Zurich--Zurich, Switzerland

    BACKGROUND:
    The Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) is an interdisciplinary research and training center of the University of Zurich and the ETH Zurich. It carries out life science research with state of the art technologies for genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics and with high-end bioinformatics analysis. The successful applicant will be part of the bioinformatics team that supports high-throughput data management, implements data analysis strategies, and provides training to the research groups accessing the center. He/She will have access to the latest generation of computing infrastructure of both institutions. The position offers a challenging opportunity at a key intersection of rapidly moving fields.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    The position's responsibilities includes the implementation and maintenance of data analysis pipelines for the analysis of microarray and high-throughput sequencing data. In addition, the expert will support and maintain the existing software environment which consists of various server and database systems for the analysis of data originating from high-throughput microarray platforms including Affymetrix, Agilent and in-house produced microarrays. Additionally he/she will implement new software features and develop bioinformatics systems for data analysis und corresponding user interfaces. Finally there will be possibilities to collaborate with researchers in the analysis and interpretation of high-throughput–omics data.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    - The ideal candidate should have a university degree in bioinformatics or an equivalent expertise with good programming skills. (Preferred programming languages are Java, Python, Perl and R.)

    - An ability to work independently is a prerequisite, as is the ability to effectively interact with the research and technical staff of the center and of research groups from University and ETH Zurich in a team-oriented manner.

    - Advanced knowledge of English is essential, as this is the working language of the center. Knowledge of German is helpful but not essential.

    TERMS:
    Full-time position, starting immediately or upon agreement.

    LOCALE:
    Working place is Functional Genomics Center in Zurich, Switzerland.

    SALARY & BENEFITS:
    Financing and employment conditions for this position are according to the guidelines of the ETH Zurich. The successful candidate will be employed by the ETH Zurich.
