Opportunity: Statistical Genetics/BIOINFORMATICS Analyst @ Northwestern University--Chicago, IL (US)

BACKGROUND:
The Division of Organ Transplantation and the Genomics Core of the Center for Genetic Medicine, in the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University are seeking a PhD-level statistical genetics/bioinformatics analyst for a joint junior faculty level position.
The Division of Organ Transplantation at Northwestern is one of the most active clinical solid organ transplant centers in the nation, with a large clinical and basic science research enterprise. The members of the Division of Organ Transplantation are involved in a number of research endeavors including genetic association studies and novel biomarker studies that include genomic and proteomic assays.
The candidate will have a primary faculty appointment in the Division of Organ Transplantation and will be embedded in the bioinformatics group within the Genomics Core Facility at the Center for Genetic Medicine.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and analysis of gene expression and genotyping experiments in collaboration with the Director of the Genomics Core and Faculty of the Division of Organ Transplantation
- Analysis of gene expression experiments
- Analysis of genotyping experiments
- Development of new analytical tools
REQUIREMENTS:
The applicant should have a background in statistical genetics and bioinformatics, and a solid understanding of molecular genetics. Experience in the analysis of gene expression and genotyping data is required.
- PhD in statistical genetics/bioinformatics with appropriate experience developing software, and experience in programming in R, MatLab, Java, SQL and dynamic languages such as Perl, Python or Ruby
- Familiarity with current genomic technologies
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals and groups
- Ability to solve problems and develop new initiatives
- Strong documentation skills
- Ability to multitask, work & learn independently, and be self-motivated
