    Opportunity: BIOINFORMATICS Service Team Member @ Scionics Computer Innovation GmbH--Dresden Germany

    BACKGROUND

    Scionics Computer Innovation GmbH is a young company providing IT products, bioinformatics support, and consulting to enhance the efficiency of scientific research in the life sciences.

    The MPI-CBG was founded in 1998 and is one of 80 institutes of the Max Planck Society, an independent, non-profit organization in Germany. The main focus of the research in the institute is to address the question "How do cells form tissues" and this question is addressed by an international staff from a variety of disciplines including molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Scionics is looking for an intelligent, friendly and outgoing person to work within their bioinformatics support group and to work with scientists at client sites, primarily at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) in Dresden.

    The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with leading scientists on a wide range of research projects and gain exposure to cutting edge technologies.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • MSc in Biology / Bioinformatics or Computer Science with biology experience
    • English fluency and good communication skills
    • Ability to quickly grasp complex biological concepts
    • Ability to work independently as well as in a team
    • Intelligent, friendly and outgoing personality
    Bioinformatics Skills:
    We are looking for candidates with a wide range of bioinformatics skills and are interested if you have experience in several of the following areas:
    • Genome analysis & Gene Prediction
    • Sequence Analysis and Functional Prediction of Proteins
    • Phylogenetic Analysis
    • Structural Biology and Analysis
    • Some programming experience (Python or Perl)
    • High throughput data analysis including Microarray and Next Generation Sequencing Data Analysis
    • Some statistical background
