    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Bioinformatics Shared Resource (BSR) at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is currently seeking an Informatics Analyst with a track record of success in bioinformatics to join our team in supporting the bioinformatics needs of the laboratory. The BSR provides a broad range of bioinformatics support, from biological database development to microarray and next generation sequencing-based analysis projects.

    We are seeking an experienced analyst who can develop standardized pipelines that incorporate the latest advances in bioinformatics software as well as develop new software tools. The Scientific Informatics Analyst will meet regularly with scientists at CSHL to discuss their projects, offer advice, provide analysis services, and will be expected to contribute to publications related to the work performed.

    Responsibilities also include:
    • Developing best-practice pipelines for bioinformatics analysis and training others in the use of these tools
    • Scripting web-based interfaces that allow non-technical users to perform their own basic bioinformatics analysis
    • Developing new tools for projects that push the boundaries of what is currently available

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (prior experience in collaborative settings a plus)
    • Ability to work independently and efficiently
    • Expertise with Linux/Unix environments (experience with SGE a plus)
    • Expertise with multiple scripting/programming languages (C/Fortran, Perl/Python, R, Java)
    • Strong Background in Biology and Bioinformatics (either a PhD in Biology, Bioinformatics, or Computer Science, or Masters in one of these fields with 4+ years experience in Bioinformatics)
    • Experience with existing bioinformatics tools, databases, and software
    • Experience with database development (SQL) helpful
