    Opportunity: Clinical Database Specialist at NIH/NHGRI @ Digicon Corporation--Bethesda, MD (US)

    BACKGROUND

    Digicon Corporation, established in 1985, is a full-service Information Technology Integrator and Solutions Provider to both government and commercial customers. Digicon employs approximately 300 employees throughout the Washington metropolitan area, as well as several other major cities across the nation.

    We are currently in search for a Clinical Database Specialist to work at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) in Bethesda, MD. This is a full-time employee position with Digicon Corporation.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented database specialist who is able to assist in the implementation and support of a Web-based relational database used in clinical research studies having a genetic focus. The successful applicant will provide support and training to database users, work directly with database developers and administrators to address problems and make enhancement requests, have the skills to manipulate large datasets, and play a key role in gap analysis and the mapping of legacy data. The successful applicant will work within an established framework of security and privacy regulations and guidelines for handling patient information.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Knowledge of relational database structure and terminology
    • Proven critical-thinking skills and demonstrated ability to manage large biological and/or clinical data sets
    • Demonstrated knowledge of genetics and/or molecular biology (e.g., successful college-level coursework)
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet applications
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a confident and cooperative service-oriented attitude; professional demeanor and appearance
    • Possesses strong work ethic; is reliable, punctual, thorough, and trustworthy
    • Fluency in both written and spoken English
    Education Requirements:
    • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in biology, bioinformatics, or a related field
    All candidates must be authorized to work in the US for any employer and able to pass a background check. No relocation assistance is available.

    PREFERENCES

    Highly qualified candidates will possess:
    • Experience in clinical or biomedical informatics
    • Experience in providing data systems end-user support
    • Experience using Structured Querying Language (SQL)
    • Clinical or laboratory research experience in genetics, molecular biology, or biochemistry
    • Experience using Macintosh OS X operating system
