    Opportunity: Software Engineer II - GSAP (#529) @ Broad Institute--Cambridge, MA (US)

    Overall Responsibility:
    Implement and maintain software systems that support genomics research projects in accordance with best practices and new technical concepts. Works closely with users to define and implement requirements and refine systems.

    Characteristic Duties:
    • Perform detailed design and implementation of specific modules or functional components.
    • Gather and document requirements from users and provide user support for implemented systems.
    • Proactively identifies technical hurdles in his/her specific areas. Recommend solutions to technical lead.
    • Provide reliable estimates for tasks and proactively identify obstacles and discuss possible solutions with the team or project leader.
    • Work with other engineers on process or design issues.
    • Other related tasks as required by team or project leader.


    • Bachelor's degree required in Computer Science or equivalent and a minimum 2 years of software development experience
    • Proficiency in Java
    • Good knowledge of dynamic web applications
    • Ideally, working knowledge of the Seam Framework and its various parts
    • UNIX/LINUX/Mac O
    • Eclipse or other IDE platform
    • Multiple J2EE API's including Servlets, JSF, JDBC, JDBC, JAXB, JAX-RS, among others...HTML, CSS, JavaScript
    • JBoss Application server and/or other J2EE application servers
    • Spring Framework and dependency-injection concepts a plus
    • RESTful web services (RESTEasy, Jersey, etc.)
    • Understand concepts and implementation of unit testing, either JUnit or TestNG
    • Knowledge of Oracle database and SQL is important
    • Excellent debugging skills
    • Knowledge of Oracle and SQL a strong plus.
    • Prior involvement or interest in biology or genomics domain a plus.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to perform effectively in a fast paced environment required.
    • Must be able to handle a variety of tasks, effectively solve problems with numerous and complex variables, and be able to shift priorities rapidly.
