    Opportunity: Computational Post Doctoral Fellow @ J. Craig Venter Institute--Rockville, MD (US)

    BACKGROUND

    J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) is looking for a Post-Doctoral Fellow to join their Rockville, MD location.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Fellow will work on a Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) metagenomics and biomarker discovery project. Responsibilities will include development of algorithms and statistical tools for analysis of metagenomic, metabolomic and proteomic data and their application to establish correlations between T1D and the high-throughput technology data. Areas of interest will include taxonomic and functional analysis of sequence data, biodiversity estimation and sequence assembly in a multi-disciplinary environment.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Qualified candidates will possess a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, ecological or biological sciences or other disciplines with training and experience in computer science and understanding of biology. A strong demonstrated computer programming experience, including knowledge of major programming languages: compiled (C/C++ or Java), scripting (Perl or Python) and SQL is desirable.
