Opportunity: BIOINFORMATICS Expert @ Functional Genomics Center--Zurich, Switzerland
Submitted by Hubert Rehrauer; posted on Friday, December 23, 2011

The Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) is a joint interdisciplinary research and training center of the ETH Zurich (ETH) and the University of Zurich (UZH). We are seeking to fill the position of a Bioinformatics Expert for the analysis of next generation sequencing data as well as the support of the FGCZ user community. The expert will contribute to the academic part of a joint academia/industry research project and deal with all aspects of sequencing data analysis as well as the integration of sequencing and proteomics data. As a member of the FGCZ bioinformatics team he will additionally implement data analyses for other projects and guide researchers in conducting their own data analysis.

The ideal candidate has a university degree in bioinformatics, alternatively a biology-related degree and extensive experience in bioinformatic data analysis. Candidates with a PhD and publications are welcome to apply. Familiarity with the management and analysis of large-scale genomics datasets will be considered an advantage. In particular, experience with sequencing data or other functional genomics data will be a plus. Basic skills with the LINUX/UNIX operating system are essential. Furthermore, practical knowledge of at least one scripting or programming language (Perl, Python, Java) is mandatory. Experience in R/Bioconductor and/or web programming will be considered an advantage.

The ability to work independently is a prerequisite, as is the ability to effectively interact with the research and technical staff of the center and of external research groups in a team-oriented manner. Advanced knowledge of English is essential, as this is the working language of the center. Knowledge of German is helpful.
