    BACKGROUND

    Medical Science & Computing, Inc. (MSC) is a small business dedicated to providing scientific and technical services to the Federal Government.     We are currently searching for a System Administrator with extensive Linux/Unix system administration experience on multiple computing platforms to support the NIH. This is a full-time position with MSC located at the NIH Campus in Bethesda, Maryland

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop and maintain enterprise Linux / UNIX infrastructure, including operating system and system utility packaging, patch management, system security, and general support to research projects.
    • Develop and maintain IT enterprise services, such as storage and backup systems, virtual tape library, file systems, authentication systems, Domain Name systems (DNS), database, and Web servers.
    • Conduct daily administration support of computing resources, including system installation, configuration, upgrading, patching, scripting, remote access, and documentation.
    • Evaluate, test and validate variant software and hardware to support enterprise IT systems.
    • Assist with coordinating and resolving technical and operational issues.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • B.S or higher degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline with minimum five years of system administration experiences
    • Extensive system administration skill in Red Hat Linux and Intel based platforms, including shell scripting or Perl programming
    • Demonstrated experience in enterprise storage system such as NetApp, including backup and archival, and comprehensive knowledge in DAS, NAS and SAN
    • Proficiency in DNS, NFS, NIS, LDAP and system security for both Linux / UNIX and Windows systems
    • Thorough knowledge in TCP/IP, SMTP, POP/IMAP protocols
    • Intimate understanding of overall Internet technology and architecture
    • Good understanding of computing security, authentication techniques, operation procedures and general practices in an enterprise IT infrastructure
    • Demonstrated self-initiated ability for analyzing, debugging, tracking and problem solving
    • Excellent organization and time management skills and ability to identify priorities as needed to accomplish a variety of tasks
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work with people at every level
