    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Social & Scientific Systems, Inc. (SSS), a company dedicated to improving public health around the world, is looking for a Team Lead - Enterprise Systems to support our IT department. The Team Lead - Enterprise Systems would provide technology expertise in the design and maintenance of SSS enterprise systems, networks and design and administration of remote site, as well as ensuring the delivery of SSS projects for internal and external clients.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Directs and supervises staff in technical operations regarding IT support, LAN/WAN, network devices, and other technology services. Manages other IT staff, service providers, and contractors to accomplish these efforts. Evaluates staffing levels against business requirements, conducts hiring processes, and works with other managers to coordinate staffing across tasks and projects.
    • Manages and leads projects as assigned.
    • Manages and leads Enterprise Systems functional groups and supervises staff as assigned. Supervises the performance of ITS functional groups, servers and network administration tasks.. Provides hardware support to servers, cabling, and the infrastructure equipment including routers, switches, servers, tape drives, and storage devices. Responsible for the maintenance, documentation, operation, and storage of the data backup functions and the resulting media.
    • Designs, installs, and configures network-based solutions including equipment, software, and services. Develops comprehensive documentation on the deployment and ongoing administration and maintenance activities. Consults on projects involving Internet hosting connectivity issues, including HTTP, FTP, SMTP, and other Internet services and protocols.
    • Manages and tracks maintenance and support contracts, subscriptions, and other time-sensitive issues as they relate to ITS Enterprise operations.
    • Identifies, recommends, facilitates technologies or procedures to support business needs, and communicates, educates and enforces company IT policies. Participates in writing responses to RFPs.
    • Develops, implements effective processes for system maintenance activities including preventive maintenance on servers, all network devices, PCs, printers, and other IT and telecommunications equipment for corporate site and remote sites. Educates and supervises IT support staff in the activities, and assists in the maintenance activities as necessary.
    • Performs assigned support tasks to meet client requirements with server hardware, software, s, and other IT tools. Meets with other support technicians, user support specialists and/or clients to determine requirements and provides follow through support to assist clients in using applications and systems.Performs and manages system maintenance activities, including preventative maintenance on servers, routers, firewalls, printer hardware, and other IT and telecommunications equipment.
    • Provides technical support services to development efforts, database administrators, clients, and others as directed.
    • Monitors support requests for trends and makes suggestions on improving the quality of support. Coordinates with the Help Desk management team and IT Director on task management and support request issues, including the update and operation of the trouble ticketing system.
    • Researches emerging technology for potential application to SSS and/or clients. Keeps abreast of current trends in the technology industry.
    • Develops SOPs, or assists in the development of SOPs, user guides and reference materials for specific applications or tasks. Assists in developing training approaches and helping users become familiar with new packages and hardware. Provides one-on-one training as needed. Conducts workshops and seminars for end-user community on IT-related topics.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Bachelor's degree and four years of related server support experience and eight years of related network systems and infrastructure support experience; vendor certification for the current desktop operating system; vendor certification for systems with direct responsibility; Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (or equivalent) certification on the current network operating system; familiarity with current version of MS Office applications; familiarity with specified IT hardware, applications and environments. Must be capable of lifting items (boxes, computer equipment, etc.) weighing up to 30 pounds. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    LOCALE

    This position is based in our Silver Spring, MD office.
