Submitted by Michelle Fujisaki; posted on Tuesday, February 21, 2012

    BACKGROUND

Founded in 1988, the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology (http://www.liai.org) is a non-profit medical research center dedicated to increasing knowledge and improving human health through studies of the immune system. Researchers at the institute carry out studies designed to understand and lead to the development of cures for cancer, allergy and asthma, infectious diseases, and autoimmune diseases such as diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease and arthritis. The institute's research staff includes over 100 Ph.Ds.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for a talented and highly motivated postdoc to join the bioinformatics team in Bjoern Peters lab (http://www.liai.org/pages/faculty-peters) at LIAI in San Diego, California. LIAI is one of the world's top 5 immunology research institutes. The candidate will build software tools to handle and analyze experimental data and model immune responses to improve the basic understanding of the immune system and facilitate the development of improved diagnostics, vaccines and immunotherapeutics. The resulting tools will be made available in the Immune Epitope Database (http://www.iedb.org).

    REQUIREMENTS

Interested candidates are required to have a PhD degree. The degree will ideally be in bioinformatics, but candidates with equivalent skills and interests in computer science, statistics, and biomedicine will be considered as well.

    PREFERENCES

Experience with Python, Perl, R, Java, Linux and web server development is desirable, and background knowledge of immunology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics is a strong plus.

    COMPENSATION

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
