BACKGROUND
The Human Genome Sequencing Center (HGSC) at Baylor College of Medicine seeks an enthusiastic individual to work with software in a rapidly evolving research environment to support the advance of sequencing technology, genomics research, and analysis. As one of three large-scale sequencing centers funded by the National Institutes of Health, HGSC provides a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge genomic scientists.
We are seeking a software engineer who is interested in using technical experiences in related or other industries and training that we provide in a rewarding and enriching environment where the work that we do impacts the future of translational medical research.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Software Engineering team is currently seeking a member to maintain and support existing J2EE/Java based applications.
Responsibilities Include:
- Work with technical leads to understand and develop use cases.
- Troubleshoot existing use cases, and communicate with users about enhancements.
- Work with laboratory users on a basis to understand their software needs.
- Identify new technology, and evaluate the uses of these new technologies for the genome center.
- Develop web solutions.
- Programmatically interface with robots.
- Demonstrate to users the use of existing and new use cases.
- Train user base.
- Participate in requirements clarification, design, development and creation of unit tests.
REQUIREMENTS
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related programming field.
- No experience required.
- Preferred: Ability to program one of the following: Java, Ruby, JavaScript, or an Object oriented language. Understanding of an agile development methodology.
- Technology environment: Java, Google Web Toolkit, Hibernate, Moab, jQuery, MySQL/Oracle, Perl, Python, Tomcat, Archiva, Maven, SVN, RESTful services.
